In this fast-paced and highly demanding world, most of us are in their heads most of the time and probably going on autopilot. We are thinking, thinking and thinking almost all the time. We are either thinking about what happened in the past or about what we want to achieve in the future.

While we are high up in our heads, our body is sending us hundreds of messages all the time. These are usually subtle messages can be about bodily discomfort or pain that needs to be taken care of. Since we are so occupied in our own thoughts we might not even be aware of these messages or choose to ignore them completely.

Why tune into your body?

If you’ve  heard about the power of  the mind-body connection, you might not be surprised to know that connecting to your body can play an important role in alleviating your discomfort and pains. This is what happens when you take the time to get emotionally and physically in touch with your body or in other words “tune into your body”.

Tuning into a certain body part of your body is a very powerful mind-body practice that will allow you to listen to what this part of your body needs to tell you. This is a very simple technique that I will share with you today. Try this while in a quiet place and relaxed position.

How to tune into your body?

First take a few deep breaths which will help you relax. Then start scanning your body from the feet upwards going through every body part and internal organ until you reach the top of your head, Notice if you feel any areas of heaviness or discomfort. These are the areas or body part you want to start with. Start tuning into this body part by placing your hands on it and focusing on breathing in and out of this area. The next step once you feel connected, is to ask about what this part needs and what your inner wisdom is asking you to do.

Please allow yourself to be surprised because you will probably be. Keep a pen and paper handy so that you can write down all the information you got and any stored emotions, pictures or memories that came up to you. These will give you a clue about what you need to work on in order to heal this part of your body.

From my personal and professional experience with this exercise I can tell you that the answer you need to know will just come to you naturally and effortlessly. It will feel as if it was already there all the time waiting for you to ask for it. It’s the inherent and miraculous wisdom of the body which is always there for us.

When you try this body tuning exercise for the first time, you might not get the best results if you are not completely relaxed or present in a calm and quiet environment. For best results, it’s also recommended to move your body before starting this exercise in order to help move any stagnant energies in your body.

The effect of stored emotions on your body

According to traditional Chinese medicine, different emotions are stored in different parts of the body. For example anger and resentment are stored in the liver, grief is stored in the lungs, fear is stored in the kidneys and worry is stored in the spleen.

If you are experiencing such emotions in an intense and ongoing basis in your life and they are not released from the body in a healthy way they tend to be stored in your tissues and organs causing energy blockages which are reflected as discomfort, pains, and organ dysfunction which can progress to serious disease conditions.

When you connect with those stored emotions by tuning into a body part, you will help to release those negative emotions and as a result ease your pain and discomfort and leave you feeling  much lighter and energetic.

Conclusion

Tuning into your body is a very unique way of energy healing that uses the power of the mind-body connection and can help whether you have been struggling with a chronic health issue for some time or just feel heavy, achy or unhappy for any reason. This practice is even more powerful when you practice it on daily basis.

As an Oakville holistic nutritionist and cancer coach, I highly recommend this energy healing practice to my clients in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle plan to allow harnessing the power of the mind-body connection and consequently markedly maximize their results
