Do you know that there is a relation between our emotions and our physical symptoms? Have you ever thought that there is a relation between your stomach pain and having an interview or having a lump in your throat when you have to say something important? Or have you ever thought of someone and just got a phone call or an email from them?

These are all feelings that come from your energy body and are rooted in energy centers called chakras.

What are Chakras?

Chakras are energy centers in the body that represent stations for receiving and sending energy signals from and to the outer world.

The term chakra comes from Sanskrit, the sacred language of ancient India. It literally means “wheel” or “turning”. This is because chakras are revolving continuously and through their rotation, they take in and send out energies from and to our surroundings.

Where are chakras located?

There are seven main chakras located along the spine in non-physical positions. They start with the root chakra at the base of the spine and end with the crown chakra at the top of the head. Each chakra is associated with particular physical organs and a hormone-producing glands and affects one’s thoughts and feelings differently. Imbalances in each chakra are reflected in particular mental and emotional issues and physical symptoms or diseases. Chakras are also associated with colors.

Here are the seven principle chakras from down to top and their colors:

  1. First Chakra-Root (base) Chakra: Located at base of the spine and its color is red. Key word is security.
  2. Second Chakra-Sacral chakra: Located above the pubic bone and below the navel and its color is orange. Key word is feeling.
  3. Third Chakra-Solar chakra: Located above the navel and its color is yellow. Key word is self-esteem.
  4. Fourth Chakra-Heart chakra: Located at the center of the chest and its color is green or pink. Key word is love
  5. Fifth Chakra-Throat chakra: Located in the throat and its color is blue. Key word is expression.
  6. Sixth Chakra-Brow chakra (Third eye): Located in center of the forehead and its color is indigo. Key word is insight.
  7. Seventh Chakra-Crown chakra: Located at the top of the head and its color is violet. Key word is spirituality.

Chakras and Healing

As it is necessary to take care of your physical body by eating properly and moving your body and it is equally important to take care of your energy body.

Blockages in your energy system represented in your chakras can hinder your healing and cause physical and emotional dysfunctions.

Working on clearing those imbalances is necessary for healing your body and soul.

Healing practices for the chakras include

  • Daily prayer and  meditation
  • Breathing techniques
  • Visualization and imagery
  • Eating certain foods
  • Specific yoga poses
  • Specific body movements
  • Color therapy
  • Aromatherapy
  • Sound healing

Do Chakras open and close?

You might have noticed that you feel energized after a yoga class or a walk in nature. This is because these activities help to open your chakras. On the contrary, when you experience something traumatic or feel particularly anxious or stressed, your chakras tend to shut down.

Our chakras change throughout the day since they are taking in and sending out energy all the time. Temporary chakra changes are normal but chronic changes can indicate a problem that has to be dealt with.

Why is energy healing important?

We are energy beings and our spiritual health is extremely important for our overall health and well- being. It has been scientifically proven that what we believe and how we feel can change our chemistry and that our physical ailments are a direct reflection of our thoughts and emotions.
